Interning in Curaçao: Lynn’s Experience

I quickly knew that I wanted to do an internship abroad. The idea of living and working in a different environment for an extended period seemed like a special experience to me. An internship in Curaçao immediately appealed to me. Not only because of the island and its climate, but also because it is an ideal place to gain work experience and further develop yourself in marketing and communications.

Looking for a marketing internship in Curaçao

Once I decided that I wanted to go to Curaçao, I started specifically looking for media agencies on the island. That is how I came across Marvelous Communications, a marketing agency in Curaçao. After an initial conversation with Marlous, it immediately felt right. We clicked right away, which gave me a lot of confidence to actually take this step.

From that moment on, it became real and I started arranging everything. I found accommodation and arranged a car, which turned out to be a really good choice. In Curaçao, a car is almost essential for getting around easily.

Living and working in Curaçao

At the end of January, I travelled to Curaçao to begin this adventure. At first, it took some getting used to. A new environment, new people and a different pace than in the Netherlands. Still, I quickly felt at home and was very excited to start my internship at a marketing agency in Curaçao.

Gaining work experience during a marketing internship

During my internship at Marvelous Communications, I worked on social media for various clients. I managed accounts, edited content and contributed ideas on strategy and implementation. This taught me how to assess what suits a brand and how to develop content that connects with the right target audience.

Because I worked with multiple clients, no two days were the same. This variety is exactly what made the work interesting and educational.

Assisting with photoshoots and content creation

In addition to my daily responsibilities, I also assisted with several shoots. This gave me a clear picture of how content is produced from start to finish. I saw how much preparation, creativity and collaboration is involved.

By being actively involved, I learned a great deal about creating strong visual content and organising productions.

Launching TikTok for a marketing agency

An important part of my internship was setting up the TikTok account for Marvelous Communications. I took on this project completely independently, from strategy to execution.

I considered the look and feel of the account, the content strategy and how we could use the platform. It was valuable to be given so much responsibility and to truly build something from the ground up.

By now, the TikTok account has become an active channel. I am proud to have been able to contribute to it.

Independently managing a content shoot

For the TikTok account, we also organised a shoot day, which I managed independently. This was a valuable learning experience, as I was personally responsible for the planning and how the day unfolded.

I had to keep an overview, adapt quickly and make sure everything ran smoothly. The trust I was given motivated me to bring out the best in myself and made me more confident in my work.

Looking back on my internship at a marketing agency in Curaçao

Looking back on my internship at Marvelous Communications, I see it as an educational and valuable period. I developed my skills in social media, content creation and working independently.

I also greatly enjoyed working with Marlous, Quinty and Roos. The work atmosphere was professional yet relaxed, which meant I enjoyed going to my internship every day.

This combination of learning, responsibility and a pleasant working environment means I look back on my internship in Curaçao with a very positive feeling.
