Interning in Curaçao: Roos’s Experience
The desire to move to Curaçao
Ever since the start of my student years, I knew that I wanted to go to Curaçao for a few months someday. Whether that would be during a gap year or through my studies. During my Communication Science degree at the University of Amsterdam, the possibility of doing an internship abroad was hardly ever discussed. So I assumed it was not really an option.
Until a classmate told me she was going to do a five-month internship in Curaçao. From that moment on, I knew for sure. I had to do it too.
Looking for a marketing internship in Curaçao
I wanted to intern at a marketing agency, so I immediately started looking for one in Curaçao. I soon came across Marvelous Media & Communications and decided to send an email right away. Before long, we had scheduled an online meeting. It immediately felt right, and from that moment on, I knew my plan to go to Curaçao would truly become a reality.
Interning at a marketing agency in Curaçao
During my internship at Marvelous Media & Communications, I was able to further develop my creative side. My studies are quite theoretical, so it was refreshing to finally get hands-on experience. At Marvelous, I was involved in the entire process, from creating social media plans to shooting content and writing social media posts.
As a result, I learned not only a great deal about marketing and communication, but also about teamwork, planning and, above all, taking action. This combination made the internship incredibly valuable.
More than just an internship
Doing an internship in Curaçao was the best decision I could have made. There is so much more to it than just the work. The beaches, relaxed atmosphere and fun parties made this period extra special.
I lived in a house with forty housemates, something I would never do in the Netherlands. But for these five months, it was perfect. There was always someone to do something fun with, and the atmosphere was amazing. I look back on this period with a big smile and perhaps best of all: I made friendships that will last a lifetime.
