The drive to explore the world

For as long as I can remember, I have had the ambition to explore the world and continue developing myself in different places. At the age of eighteen, I first turned that dream into action by moving to London for a while. Not long after, I did volunteer work in Tanzania. These experiences opened my eyes and further fueled my passion for living abroad. After my minor in Lisbon, I knew for sure: even after graduating, I was far from done exploring.

A choice after my Commercial Economics degree

After earning my degree in Commercial Economics in the summer of 2025, the world was once again open to me. Would I pursue a master's degree, look for a job in the village where I grew up, or embark on another adventure and move abroad? The latter option felt like the most logical choice.

During my online search for opportunities to gain international work experience in marketing and communications, I got in touch with Marlous from Marvelous Media & Communications in Curaçao. There was an instant connection from our very first conversation. After I explained my vision, she was immediately enthusiastic.

My goal was clear: to gain international experience in my field, so I could return to the Netherlands with a stronger CV and valuable practical knowledge. And that is exactly what happened.

From my very first day at Marvelous Media & Communications, I was immersed in the day-to-day operations of a marketing agency in Curaçao. From client meetings to contributing ideas for marketing strategies and social media plans. I was introduced to all the brands Marvelous works for and was given an active, independent role within the team from day one.

Thanks to the experience and guidance within the agency, I developed rapidly and further expanded my skills in marketing and communications.

Trust and responsibility in practice

Before long, I was attending client meetings independently and giving presentations for brands I had never imagined I would have the opportunity to work for. The trust I was given made me increasingly confident in my own abilities. An experience I will carry with me throughout my career.

Being able to lead several shoot days also contributed greatly to this. My self-confidence grew, along with my practical experience. Every day brought new insights, responsibilities and learning opportunities.

Working together within the Marvelous team

In addition to my own development, I worked closely with colleagues and other team members at Marvelous Media & Communications. Together, we developed and implemented creative social media strategies for a wide range of brands. Experiencing the entire process up close, from concept to execution, and actively contributing to it was incredibly educational.

An experience I will take with me throughout my career

Thanks to my time at Marvelous, I have been to places I never thought I would go. I have delivered projects I did not know I was capable of. I am grateful for the trust and responsibility I was given.

With these experiences under my belt, I can now confidently continue my career in the Netherlands.
