My five-month internship in Curaçao

My five-month internship in Curaçao

Five months ago, I began my adventure in Curaçao. Although I had always thought I would do my internship in the Netherlands, my mindset changed completely. “Why not?” I thought. This was the perfect opportunity to develop myself, both professionally and personally. I quickly knew that I wanted to go to Curaçao for a marketing internship. The positive stories, wonderful weather and fun parties made the choice easy.

First contact with Marvelous Media & Communications

Through Bo Curaçao, an organization that helps with internships, housing and transportation, I quickly got in touch with Marlous from Marvelous Media & Communications. After a video call, I was immediately enthusiastic. Fortunately, Marlous was too, because I was able to start my marketing internship with her in September.

A warm welcome to Curaçao

On August 28, the time had come: I flew to Curaçao together with Noor, the other intern at Marvelous. Noor and I had already been in touch and discovered that we would be staying in the same student house. We decided to share a car, which was not only practical, but also a fun start to our adventure.

My first day of the internship on September 2 immediately felt right. The atmosphere at Marvelous was great, and I was confident that I would learn a lot. Marlous said right away: “This is not a basic internship; you are really going to learn something here.” And she was absolutely right.

A versatile and educational internship

During my internship, I had the opportunity to learn an enormous range of new aspects of marketing and communication. I started by creating social media plans for 2025 and worked on designs for clients such as a pest control company and the Kathedraal van Doornen. Presenting these plans to clients aligned perfectly with my learning objectives.

The variety of the internship made the work especially interesting. One day I was designing, the next I was writing copy or heading out with Noor to create content. This provided plenty of variety and a steep learning curve.

Teamwork and independence

What made the internship even more enjoyable was working with Noor. We complemented each other well and often collaborated on projects. Marlous gave us a lot of trust and independence, which encouraged me to share my ideas, ask for feedback and apply my creativity to the work.

Enjoying Curaçao

In addition to my internship, I thoroughly enjoyed Curaçao. I worked hard during the week, but there was time to relax in the evenings and at weekends. My student house, with 40 fellow residents, was always full of fun and gezelligheid. We had parties, went to the beach and made unforgettable memories together.

An experience never to forget

My time in Curaçao was truly unforgettable. I learned so much about marketing and about myself, while also sharing wonderful moments with my housemates. I have made friendships here that will last a lifetime.

Marlous, thank you so much for this fun, educational and unforgettable time. I will carry the opportunities I was given to develop myself with me forever!
