Internship in Curaçao: An experience you’ll never forget
A year ago, I decided to do my six-month internship abroad, and it was one of the best choices I have ever made. During the second year of my studies, I had already completed a short internship in the Netherlands, but the idea of combining my next internship with a sunny destination quickly became appealing. Trading the cold of the Netherlands for a tropical island? Curaçao was the perfect choice.
From idea to reality
After doing some research, I came across Marvelous Marketing en Communicatie, Marlous’s marketing company. During our first conversation, I immediately knew: this is it. It felt right, and I knew this was where I wanted to spend my internship. From day one, I felt welcome. Of course, it is exciting to be so far away from home, but Marlous immediately put us at ease. No question was too much, and I knew I could always count on her.
No standard internship
What made this internship so special was its versatility. Marlous warned us at the start: “This is not a Jip en Janneke internship.” And she was right. The assignments were challenging, varied and gave me the opportunity to truly develop myself. From marketing presentations and client visits to productions and strategies: I was able to contribute to everything. The trust Marlous placed in me gave me the space not only to learn, but to truly contribute as well.
Personal and professional growth
In just a few months, I learned more than I ever expected. Not only professionally, but also about myself. Working in Curaçao means working in a completely different environment, where you need to be flexible and creative. This helped me tremendously to become more confident and independent.
A time I will never forget
Now that my internship has come to an end, I look back on this experience with great pride and gratitude. On day one, Marlous said: “Before you know it, the time will be over,” and she was right. It flew by. Marlous’s guidance, the unique opportunities I was given and the beautiful surroundings made this internship unforgettable.
