Interning at a marketing agency in Curaçao

Interning at a marketing agency in Curaçao

A graduation internship abroad—that sounded like something for me. Why? The opportunity to apply my studies in a different cultural context, along with the prospects of personal growth and broadening my horizons, were aspects that particularly appealed to me. The idea of being able to use my knowledge and skills outside my familiar environment offered a unique opportunity for both professional and personal development.

After responding to a LinkedIn vacancy and having a video call with Marlous, founder of Marvelous Media & Communications, this dream became a reality. Ever since the first year of my Creative Business programme, I had been saying louder than anyone that I wanted to do an internship abroad—but actually doing it is another matter.

On August 10, the time had come: the flight to Curaçao that would completely change the final months of 2023 for me. Extremely excited, but secretly also incredibly nervous, I boarded the plane and the adventure could begin.

Looking back on the past five months, I have developed myself in several areas. Not only in terms of self-confidence and independence, but also professionally at a marketing agency.

At Marvelous, I was tasked with creating and executing social media plans for a range of different clients. From pest control to a major work of art in Curaçao. I was ultimately able to develop and schedule these plans for the coming year. I also wrote blogs and learned what it is like to be in direct contact with clients. Marlous gave me the space to figure everything out for myself. After asking about my learning goals, I was given the freedom to achieve all six of them.

The internship at this marketing agency was impressive because I expanded my knowledge and improved my skills, took on challenges and went through creative processes. It was a highly educational few months, also on a personal level.

For every student looking for an internship in Curaçao: don’t wait any longer and seize your opportunity. Email companies, take action, because I wish everyone could have this experience. Apart from doing your internship during the day, you experience so much in your free time and can fully enjoy the vibrant student life in Curaçao. I am convinced that I will continue seeing the people I met here in the Netherlands, because these are friendships for life.

Marlous, thank you for this opportunity and thank you for the past few months in Curaçao. Te aworo!
